Overview of Course
The Food and Society class will explain the principles and paradoxes in the study of food. Synthesize and study key elements of the interaction of food and its society from port side dining experiences from Africa to Asia. Learn historical, sociological, economic, political perspectives, and cultural awareness of food and its consumption. Evaluate trends in the industrialization of contemporary agriculture. Discuss controversial issues related to what we eat and why we eat it and have a little fun improving your table etiquette as a world traveler.
