Fall 2026 | Epic Explorations to Europe, South America, Africa, and Asia
JTC 412 International Mass Communication
Overview of Course
This course surveys global media systems, comparing Western commercial models with public-service, authoritarian, and hybrid structures. We investigate transnational news flows, cultural imperialism, soft power, and the role of global tech giants in shaping public opinion. Case studies range from Al Jazeera’s regional impact to the Hallyu wave of Korean drama exports and the geopolitics of TikTok. Students analyze policy frameworks, from EU privacy law to China’s Great Firewall, and assess how journalists negotiate censorship, conflict, and safety.
