JTC 345 Video Production [CRN 75640 and 75642]
Overview of Course
This course will teach the basics of shooting and editing video on smartphones to tell captivating news and feature stories on digital platforms. Students will learn that video storytelling starts by focusing on the audience and defining the story. They will employ appropriate techniques of videography – including storyboarding, script writing and shot sequencing – to produce compelling viewing for that audience.
On board ship, students will learn the technical aspects of shooting and editing video. They will develop story ideas, plan shoots and carry out their plans in ports of call. Students will produce these stories, learning how tight writing, carefully edited images and high-quality sound work together to tell the tale. Mastery comes from doing a story, critiquing the result – and others’ results – and applying those lessons to make the next story better. By the end of the voyage, students will become competent video storytellers.
