ESS 150 Imagining Sustainability
Overview of Course
In Imagining Sustainability, we’ll take a fresh, in-depth look at sustainability, resilience, and the real-world changes we can make to tackle today’s global challenges. This isn’t your typical sustainability course—we’re going beyond basic concepts to examine how ideas of resilience and sustainability intersect with justice, equity, and community well-being. It’s about connecting the dots and challenging the status quo to build a future that’s fair and sustainable for everyone.
Throughout the course, you will dive into different sustainability frameworks and methods, and will learn how to analyze and critique them. Together, we will look at what works, what doesn’t, and what’s missing. You’ll gain hands-on skills to identify and assess sustainability in real-world contexts, and by the end, you’ll have the tools to create and defend actionable, ethical goals that can actually make a difference for communities.
With a mix of discussions, projects, and reflections, this course is designed to push you to think critically and creatively. You will walk away ready to take on sustainability challenges in meaningful ways, equipped to lead the charge toward a more resilient, inclusive, and equitable world. If you are passionate about making a difference and ready to look at sustainability from every angle, this course is for you!
This course is also offered as ANTH 150 through the CSU Department of Anthropology and Geography.
