This course is for non-science majors. Chemical concepts will be covered on a need-to-know basis to enable you to understand science-based topics relevant to our ports of call, as well as global issues directly impacting you and the rest of humanity. The most common form of communication in the waters beneath the MV Explorer is bioluminescence. Find out how it is made and how we can use it in medicine. Learn how Ouzo is distilled (Greece), oil refined (Jordan, Oman), waste recycled (Malaysia), greenhouse gases produced (the World), and how phenomenal amounts of energy were produced in nuclear reactions in Hiroshima and Fukushima (Japan).
