TH 141 Introduction to Theatre [CRN 14763]
Overview of Course
Students will learn how to enjoy theatre, through an understanding of its development around the world and how it expresses and informs our culture. Theatre is necessarily a collaboration between artists to tell a story in a way bigger than any one artist might: text, performance, music, dance, sound, and visual design all combine to an experience shared with an audience. Students will learn about the many roles that work together to make a show happen, the styles and conventions worldwide, and the interdependent impact of theatre and culture. Each culture we visit has its own way of making performance, which you will see first-hand! While at sea we will discuss what we have seen on shore, and also major events that have shaped theatre for thousands of years.
