Overview of Course

This course is designed to assist in taking full advantage of the Semester at Sea experience. The course examines and explores personal cultural identities through discourse and reflection within the classroom. We have the opportunity to discover and explore our own identities while acknowledging and seeking to understand and communicate with people from completely different cultures and backgrounds. The course identifies and analyzes politically constructed categories of race, age, class, gender in society against the backdrop of debates on multiculturalism in the United States and the world. The course will examine intercultural communication theory and practice and build skills to communicate in both domestic and international environments.
