People, planet, and/or profits? These are the over-arching themes of the International Issues – Recreation and Tourism class that are discussed and experienced during Semester At Sea. Understand issues and trends such as sustainability, health, wellness, and even the growing need to assess the business models for tourism. Recognize the advantages and disadvantages of tourism and recreation to a destination and the matters of contention over sustainable development and economic impact on destinations. Understand the dos and taboos from cultures that affect the tourism and recreation experience. Become aware of what it means to be a global citizen through travel.
