MGT 340 Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship [CRN 76710]
Overview of Course
This introductory course explores entrepreneurship and the role of entrepreneurs in an economy by seeing entrepreneurship in action in the places we visit. With this exposure, we aim to prepare students to become entrepreneurs – whether the setting is entrepreneurial activity within an existing firm, new venture creation, or social entrepreneurship. At a macro level, we will explore the impact of entrepreneurship on the global economy and on national economies in the countries we visit. At a micro level, we will study and talk with individual entrepreneurs and explore the process of new venture creation. This course uses the same textbook and covers all of the same fundamentals as the equivalent course taught at Colorado State University. To mesh with our voyage, we will examine these concepts from an international and historical perspective, studying how colonial history and the policies and practices of different cultural and legal environments affect entrepreneurs, identifying commonalities and differences, and exploring examples where enterprise is encouraged and supported in different ways. The order of some of the topics covered has been structured to maximize opportunities for learning in the places we visit.
