JTC 345 Video Production [CRN 21039]
Overview of Course
This course will teach students the basics of video storytelling for news, current affairs and special interest programs. First and foremost, students will learn that video storytelling is about focusing on the story itself and employing appropriate techniques of videography to produce compelling final viewing for audiences – and not using video techniques and effects just for their own sake. On board ship, students will learn the technical aspects of shooting and editing video. They will develop story or program ideas, plan shoots, and carry out their plans in ports of call. Students will produce stories or programs, learning how words and carefully edited images and sound work together to tell the story. Mastery comes from doing a story, critiquing the result and applying lessons learned to make the next story better. By the end of the voyage, students will become competent video storytellers.
