HORT 180A2 The Importance of Plants [CRN 22450]
Overview of Course
Each day humans depend on plants. Most of the food we eat comes from plants or animals/fungi that consume plants. The fabrics used to make most of our clothing come from plants. The wooden desks we sit at are cut from trees. Even the air we breathe is there because of plants. Still, most people move through their lives not noticing plants in their everyday lives. In this class, students will gain an understanding of the significant role plants and landscapes play in human lives and society. Plants that are of horticultural interest are the foundation of most natural systems on earth and therefore relate to all other biological sciences. Students will explore the areas of landscape horticulture, olericulture, pomology, floriculture, and greenhouse production.
