Overview of Course

In a world interconnected like never before, understanding the intricacies of global economic systems is essential for informed global citizenship. This course studies how various economies are organized, managed, and perform in the world, with a focus on the countries visited during the voyage. Topics include economic systems (capitalism, socialism, and mixed economies), the historical, cultural, and institutional factors that shape and influence these economic systems. Students will also evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of various economic systems in addressing complex economic, social, and environmental challenges such as income distribution, innovation, environmental sustainability, and social welfare. This course will advance students’ critical thinking skills and cross-cultural understanding through comprehensive comparative analysis.
