E 142 Reading Without Borders [CRN 19717]
Overview of Course
E 142 Reading Without Borders will examine global and multicultural narratives of family, faith, race, gender, class, and nation. The readings are designed to impart a rich and nuanced understanding of the multi-layered complexities found in border communities, especially those visited during this voyage. The material and focus will expand concepts of cultural distinctions and authors’ perspectives as reflected in their writings. Students in this interactive course are invited to engage the acts of traveling, reading, writing, and experiential learning as collaborators and problem-solvers. As we travel onboard the MV Odyssey, our readings and discussions will reflect our ports of call from Northern and Eastern Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. Assignments include journal reflections, leading class discussions, presentations, and composing formal analysis and short reaction essays.
